RESUMEN

Many university students have difficulties when facing statistics related tasks, leading to an increase in their levels of anxiety and poor performance. Researchers have identified negative attitudes towards statistics, which have been shaped through students' secondary education experience, as a major driver for their failure. In this study we want to uncover the causal recipes of attitudes leading to high and low levels of anxiety in secondary education students, and the role that the learning approach plays in these relationships. We used fuzzy sets comparative qualitative analysis (fsQCA) in a sample of 325 students surveyed on the multifactorial scale of attitudes toward statistics (MSATS) and the revised two factor study process questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F). The results indicate that, respectively, a high or a low level of self-confidence is the most important and a sufficient condition by itself for achieving a low or a high level of anxiety, while the learning approaches and other attitudes are only present in other causal combinations that represent a small number of cases.

RESUMEN

In this paper we investigate to which point each of the healthcare industry's stakeholders are influencing the final innovation outputs. We propose and test a model that puts together stakeholders' engagement, innovation objectives and innovation outputs. We analyze data from 400+ healthcare Spanish companies using Partial Least Squared modelling technique. Results show that stakeholders' engagement is crucial to orientate innovation objectives that are directly and positively related to innovation outputs. Also, results push to a higher implication of society in the co-creation and participation in innovation activities in the healthcare industry highlighting its importance as, both, triggers and the most benefited recipients. This paper uncovers the relationship among healthcare stakeholders and innovation outputs and also answers another research question-which stakeholders have a stronger relationship with innovation outputs. Implications suggest that healthcare industry managers and policy makers should build on the relationship with clients/customers/patients/final users as innovation-related information inputs as an effective way to improve their innovation outputs.

RESUMEN

This paper examines key aspects in the innovative behavior of the construction firms that determine their environmental orientation while innovating. Structural equation modeling was used and data of 222 firms retrieved from the Spanish Technological Innovation Panel (PITEC) for 2010 to analyse the drivers of environmental orientation of the construction firms during the innovation process. The results show that the environmental orientation is positively affected by the product and process orientation of construction firms during the innovation process. Furthermore, the positive relation between the importance of market information sources and environmental orientation, mediated by process and product orientation, is discussed. Finally, a model that explains these relations is proposed and validated. Results have important managerial implications for those companies worried about their eco-innovative focus as the types of actions and relations within firms most suitable for improving their eco-innovative orientation are highlighted.
